IYC July 2008 - San Antonio

IYC 2008 was an action packed week full of worship, ministry and fun. We arrived at McArther Park Church of God on Saturday for some fun before our busy week. We stayed through Sunday for morning worship and then headed to our hotel to check in.

Our youth group were greeters at the other hotels for the groups coming to IYC from around the country. This was a great opportunity to witness to the other hotel guests and staff and to catch up with friends from around the country.

We attended a missions banquet for groups attending IYC that had completed a service project the week prior to coming. (Our church had sent a group to Mexico to build a house for a family there.) It was great to hear from other youth about how they had been blessing others, and how they had been blessed.

The week went by to fast. We had conferences with guest speakers and worship leaders such as Louie Giglio, Chris Tomlin, and Charlie Hall. The Skit Guys were there, as well as the bands Starfield and The Afters. There were many more guest speakers, but it would take all day to list them.

We also did a city wide service project as an IYC group. Our group decided to decend upon San Antonio and cover the people in prayer. We handed out water bottles and asked if anyone would like us to pray for them. It was an eye-opening experience. Some would pass us by and ignore us, some would start to share about their lives with us. It was an amazing team building experience.

Our group became really close and we worked well together in all that we did. We accomplished a lot in one week and look forward to the next IYC. We can't wait till 2010 when we meet up in Orlando, Florida!
